Well, it's not really a monsoon, just a nice rainy Florida summer. It seems like a monsoon because the rain has been going on for quite a while now. The weather is driving a lot of people crazy but I love it. I love hearing the rain falling on our tin roof, the "rain frogs" croaking, and the sounds of cars splashing through puddles. The only bad thing is that it means I can't take The Precious outside much. So we've been playing inside and I've tried to come up with new things for us to do so she doesn't get too bored.
First I tried cutting paperdolls, because that is something I loved as a kid and still enjoy now. She loves watching my shiny big scissors as they carefully navigate the lines I see in my head until a string of ballerinas or little girls or angels or whatever appears. Then she enjoys sitting down and tearing them up. It keeps us both happy for a while.
Another thing we have enjoyed is the "cave" I have made for her by draping a blanket over my fabric cutting table. She can crawl underneath and hide behind the blanket and peek out at the world, and she giggles a lot when I crawl in after her.
I need to come up with something new because the rain keeps coming. I think today I will try hooking up my keyboard and playing music for her so she can dance.
Any suggestions for indoor activities for a one-year-old?

Moss is the Best Medicine
I seem to have caught a summer cold or something, and found myself wrapped in two green fuzzy blankets yesterday shivering, despite the fact that this is Florida and I am always hot. I was quite miserable most of the day but found the best comfort in eating a Cup of Soup (ramen to the rescue!) and rewatching the first episode of IT Crowd. I think that in this case, laughter was definitely the best medicine, because I felt better just about every time dear old Moss opened his mouth.
See, much better already :)

One Doesn't?
When I saw this image I was confused.
If one doesn't simply "paint" one's nails, what on Arda does one do? Is there something I need to be told, some womanly art I have not been instructed in? I need answers, people!
The other thing I could not help but think was, "Alas for Boromir! Tis likely best that he did not live to see this day."

Reasons to Wear a Big Red Hat
THE OBVIOUS REASONS:
1. You like big red hats.
2. You are in the Red Hat Society.
3. You are a cardinal.
THE PRACTICAL REASONS:
1. It adds instant flare to your outfit.
2. It covers up messy hair.
3. Maybe wearing a big red hat will distract everyone from the dark circles under your eyes. I've tried it!
THE BEST REASON TO WEAR A BIG RED HAT:
You can jump out at people shouting, "No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!"

I have been needing tags to sew into my handmade items for etsy, but couldn't afford to have them professionally printed yet. So when I found this super-easy tutorial, I was overjoyed. I can't wait to try making my own. I just need to find some twill tape and make sure my ink is meant for fabric. I'll post the results on here :)
